Born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Amy
Carlson spent most of her early life in the Chicago area. Amy was a resident of
Glen Ellyn the city of Illinois, up until she graduated from junior college.
The family also lived in Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught
at the American School. Amy is the older sister of Betsy, Lori, and brother

They were both teachers and could go camping and travel together every summer
because of this. They've camped across every state, with the exception of
Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda to help in relief efforts following the war in 1994.
From the beginning, Amy showed artistic talent acting in school productions and
taking part in writing contests. In high school, she was a star athlete winning
the first ever 3200-meter relay to be held for girls in the Illinois track.
After sustaining an injury, she was able to return to theater and play many
roles such as Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's
film "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was an Knox College student from
Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with a B.A. East Asian history, with the
concentration in Theater. She moved to Chicago shortly after and then studied
Improv at the Improv Olympic and then acting at The Actor's Center. A contract
role on the now defunct soap drama Another World (1964) moved her to NYC
shortly after her graduation. She was nominated in the "Outstanding
Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series" category for the Daytime
Emmy Award. The most memorable of her roles were of strong women as Alex Taylor
in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen in
Peacemakers (2003) alongside Tom Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda
Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson is currently living in New York City together
with Syd Butler (bassist of Les Savy Fav), and she is the co-owner of
Frenchkiss Records. Amy continues to pursue her passions on film and writing.
